JV Boys Soccer Start Season Strong
JV boys soccer opened their season Jan. 11 at Canutillo. The boys beat Canutillo 4-1. Goals were made by freshman Angel Falcon, sophomore Gonzalo Padilla, freshman Juan Contreras, and sophomore Ivar Arroyo. Many of the players were excited about their win but understood it’s just the beginning of a long season.
“Even though we won, we need to head back to the field and fix all those small details,” junior Emilio Hernandez said. Hernandez said that there’s no need to over exaggerate about the first win of the season. Hernandez and many of the other players stated that their main goal for this year is to finish the season undefeated. Hernandez said hopes that his team doesn’t lose sight of that goal and continue working hard. Other players also agreed that although this win was very important there’s no need to stop working.
“This has to be the first win of many on the season. We want to continue Highlander soccer tradition and win,” junior Leo Morales said. Morales said although the team is stronger than most, that is no reason to relax and not play as hard as possible. Morales hopes to push the team to reach the goals.
Most players see the great potential in the team.
“Everyone keeps saying how great we are but all I know is I have so much fun stepping onto the field with my teammates,” Contreras said. Contreras said scoring in the past game wasn’t his main goal. His biggest goal was to help the team win by any means necessary according to Contreras. Contreras said since it is his first year in high school, he’s not exactly sure of what to expect going into further competition, but he’s glad to have older players on the team leading the way.
