With only two starters returning and four sophomores on the roster, the Lady Highlanders are a young team. They are off to a 9-5 start and have had close games against Montwood and Socorro.

Although they lost senior point guard Pamela Herrera to a season ending injury, the Lady Highlanders have found a way to win.

The Lady Highlanders won Wednesday against Riverside high school 52-37. They play against El Dorado tonight at 7p.m

Senior forward Theresa Betancourt reflected on the Loretto tournament which was played Nov. 12-14. They finished in third place.

“We have found ways to come together and come out with wins. Although we have some losses in our record, we will come along and be ready for district play.”

Junior guard Destiny Ramirez agreed with Betancourt.

“Playing 1-6A teams early in the season is going to help us out when it comes to district play. If we can play at a high level every game we will find ways to win.”

Varsity Assistant Mike Dwyer reflected on the start to the season.

“We have had some good games but have had some bad ones as well. We just have to keep getting better as the season progresses.”
